Is it ethical to avoid error analysis?

Machine learning algorithms tend to create more accurate models with the availability of large datasets. In some cases, highly accurate models can hide the presence of bias in the data. There are several studies published that tackle the development of discriminatory-aware machine learning algorithms. We center on the further evaluation of machine learning models by doing error analysis, to understand under what conditions the model is not working as expected. We focus on the ethical implications of avoiding error analysis, from a falsification of results and discrimination perspective. Towards the Empowered Births: Recovering our Bodies Kidnapped by the Biomedicine

Throughout the western History, women have gradually lost the power over their own bodies, noticing how everything, which is happening inside them, become pathologized and medicalized. Pregnancy and labor are totally in the hands of biomedicine, subject to medical protocols intended to the comfort of the medical professionals, and which treat women many times as little girls incapable of making their own decisions, constituting an accurate breeding ground to obstetric violence. Recently there are some activism rising up and gathering strength intending to inform, educating and putting pressure to make women recovering the leading role on their own labors again. As the right to decide is a sexual right, that’s why the empowered births turn out to be a deeply feminist concession.A lo largo de la historia de Occidente las mujeres han ido perdiendo paulatinamente el poder sobre sus propios cuerpos, viendo cómo se patologiza y medicaliza todo lo que en ellos sucede: el embarazo y el parto se hallan totalmente en manos de la biomedicina, sujetos a unos protocolos médicos destinados a la comodidad de los profesionales y que tratan en demasiadas ocasiones a las mujeres como a niñas incapaces de decidir por sí mismas, lo que constituye un caldo de cultivo idóneo para la violencia obstétrica. Pero en los últimos tiempos están surgiendo diversas formas de activismo que cada vez toman más fuerza, con el objetivo de informar, formar y presionar a nivel social para que las mujeres vuelvan a ser las protagonistas de sus propios partos. Porque el derecho a decidir es un derecho sexual, y por ello, los partos empoderados resultan una reivindicación profundamente feminista

Looking at One Another: Sociolinguistic Implications of Latin American Immigration in Andalusia

La sociedad española cuenta hoy con un importante colectivo de inmigrantes de Hispanoamérica. El uso de una lengua común hace que se produzca menos fricción en la integración de esta amplia comunidad, pero no es garantía de plena intercomprensión y éxito comunicativo. Este trabajo se centra en el análisis de la percepción lingüística que tienen, respectivamente, los hablantes andaluces e hispanoamericanos. El uso común de la lengua castellana es punto de acercamiento, pero la existencia de una modalidad lingüística arraigada en los inmigrantes, hace que éstos se planteen cuestiones relacionadas con la lealtad lingüística y que desarrollen procesos tanto de valoración de la modalidad andaluza, como de refuerzo de la autoestima lingüística. Conocer cómo son estos comportamientos sociolingüísticos, en qué mecanismos se fundamentan y cuál es la valoración social que desarrollan es importante para entender cómo se producen procesos de empatía o de extrañamiento en ambas comunidades. La divergencia de uso lingüístico puede tener consecuencias sociolingüísticas que son especialmente relevantes en determinadas situaciones, como la interacción en el ámbito laboral, o en ciertos sectores y generaciones, como la inserción de los niños de origen hispanoamericanos en la escuela. Comprender cuáles son las claves de esta autopercepción, ayudará a diseñar políticas educativas y lingüísticas que caminen hacia la mutua aceptación y la revalorización de la modalidad lingüística propia.In Spanish society today there is a significant collective of immigrants from Latin America. The use of a common language makes for less friction in the integration of this large community, but it is not a guarantee of full mutual understanding and communicative success. This paper focuses on the analysis of the linguistic perception that Andalusian and Latin-American speakers of Spanish have of each other. The common use of the Spanish language is a point that brings them together, but the existence of a deeply-rooted linguistic variety among the immigrants leads this group to consider matters related to linguistic loyalty and to develop processes both of evaluation of the Andalusian variety and of reinforcement of linguistic self-esteem. It is important to know how these sociolinguistic behaviours work, on which mechanisms they are based and what is the social evaluation they bring about in order to understand how processes of empathy or of aversion are produced in both communities.The divergence of linguistic use may have consequences in the work place, or in certain sectors and age groups, such as the insertion of children of Latin American origin in school. Understanding the key factors of this self-perception will help to design educational and linguistic policies which lead to mutual acceptance and the appreciation of personal linguistic variety

Este trabajo es un acercamiento a la figura de Emma Cohen y a sus dos textos dramáticos para adultos, Araña en bañera y Terraza de café por la noche. Nuestro propósito es comenzar a subsanar la total ausencia de estudios sobre esta artista de curiosidad insaciable cuya creación se diversifica en disciplinas variadas. Las obras a las que nos aproximamos son muy diferentes y, a la vez, representativas ambas del rico universo de Cohen, de sus preferencias literarias, de su estilo. El análisis de estas dos piezas, que no agota esta aportación, nos ofrece un mirador privilegiado para apreciar y entender la creación de la autora.This work is an approach to the figure of Emma Cohen and her two dramatic texts for adults, Araña en bañera and Terraza de café por la noche. Our purpose is to begin rectifying the complete lack of research on this artist whose insatiable curiosity led her to diversify her creation into different disciplines. The plays that we are researching are significantly different and, at the same time, both of them are representative of the rich universe of the writer, her literary preferences, her style. This contribution does not exhaust the study of these two pieces. However, it offers a privileged viewpoint to appreciate and understand the creation of this author

Aproximación a los escribanos reales de Málaga a comienzos del siglo XIX : pervivencia de un conflicto secular

Los escribanos reales representaban un colectivo con atribuciones profesionales limitadas y que tenía que hacer frente a continuos conflictos con otras categorías notariales, además de la competencia que se generaba entre ellos mismos. Esta problemática situación, inalterable a lo largo de los siglos, persistía a comienzos del XIX, como se pone de manifiesto con motivo de la habilitación de tres nuevos escribanos de los Reinos.The real notary publics represented a group with limited professional attributions. They had to put up with continuous conflicts with other notarial categories, besides the competition generated between themselves. This problematic situation, unchanged for ages, persisted at the beginning of the 19th century, what is shown with the fact of being appointed three new notary publics in the Kingdoms

Los escribanos reales de Málaga en el siglo XVII

Los estudios sobre el estamento notarial han ido aumentando en las últimas décadas. Sin embargo, la figura de los escribanos reales o de los Reinos ha sido tratada, en ocasiones, de manera más secundaria. Al no estar adscritos a una ciudad ni a un escritorio específico sus competencias estaban muy limitadas y entraban en constante conflicto con los escribanos de Número y los del Cabildo municipal, como analizaremos en este artículo, centrándonos en la Málaga del siglo XVII.Studies about the notarial stratum have been increasing in the last few decades. Neverthless the figure of the royal notaries has been dealt with in a more secondary way. Not being appointed to a town or a specific office, their competences were very restricted and they faced with numerary notaries and those from the municipal town council such as we will analyze through this article focussing on Málaga in the seventeeth century
